HELL DIETMAR: the Industry 4.0 revolution in a small metalworking company
2022

THE CHALLENGE
Hell Dietmar, a company based in Bolzano (Italy), has been manufacturing custom-made products for over 40 years. These include railings, steel structures, stairs, religious elements, artistic objects, and extravagant furniture made from natural or stainless steel.
In 2022, to improve its production process, the company decided to expand its machinery by adding a Gweike laser cutter, imported by F3 FUMAGALLI. This investment took advantage of the tax benefits provided by the Italian Transition Plan 4.0. This marked the beginning of Hell Dietmar’s collaboration with Orchestra, which led to the integration of Industry 4.0 practices into daily operations.
THE SOLUTION
The first challenge was the interconnection of a foreign-produced machine like the one supplied by F3 FUMAGALLI. Since it was not originally designed for Industry 4.0 integration, adjustments were necessary.
To solve this, the company installed RETUNER’s SMARTEdge4.0. This technology enabled seamless integration between the new machine and the existing equipment in the production line.
Previously, the company only used an accounting system for invoices and billing. Therefore, the MES component of RETUNER was implemented to serve as a digital factory system. It allowed the machine to connect with the company’s digital infrastructure, using parameters tailored to the metal industry.
THE BENEFITS
Thanks to the integration of the MiniMES4.0 software with the laser cutting machine, Hell Dietmar gained a reliable system for managing production.
In fact, MiniMES4.0 not only communicates bidirectionally with the machine but also handles production orders throughout the entire workflow. As a result, the company can now track each order from the moment it is received until it is completed.
This system ensures a smooth flow of information across departments, as envisioned by the Industry 4.0 model. In particular, Hell Dietmar can now manage orders in a fully integrated way—from customer request to final production.
By simply recording processing times for both operators and machines, along with the quantities produced, digital tracking has effectively replaced the traditional paper-based approach.
Moreover, the digital archive of completed orders offers additional benefits. It enables the reuse of previous drawings and machine programs, and it provides accurate cost data that can be used for future estimates.
The owner of Hell Dietmar expressed his satisfaction with the RETUNER system, stating:
“Reliable service, competent personnel, and personalized programs: definitely to be recommended.
