FEDERICI LUCA E C. snc: the Industry 4.0 revolution in a small business specializing in woodworking
2024

THE CHALLENGE
Founded in 1966, FEDERICI LUCA E C. snc is an Italian based company operating in the wood sector, which over the years has transformed into a workshop of framers specializing in the shaping of furniture panels. A subcontractor in the production of wood components and semi-finished products for the furniture industry and complete custom furniture, today they have a total of 7 employees, 5 of whom are in production.
In 2021, the company decides to expand and digitize its machine park with the five new BIESSE machines in order to increase and optimize its production:
A choice that allows the company to access the tax credit of the Italian Transition 4.0 Plan and to start with Orchestra a relationship aimed at making FEDERICI a digitized reality according to 4.0 standards.
THE SOLUTION
The first step was to equip the company with production management software to which to interconnect the new machines. Since we were dealing with BIESSE machinery, the choice fell on BIESSE’s SMARTCONNECTION “powered by RETUNER®”: the MES developed by BIESSE in collaboration with RETUNER®, Orchestra’s suite of products, in the version specifically designed for small and medium-sized companies in the wood industry. It is a factory management system with the main function of optimizing the company’s production processes since the company did not previously have efficient production control.
THE BENEFITS
With the adoption of SMARTCONNECTION, it has been possible to:
- Improve the ability to control and plan all machining operations both on the machine and on manual stations, having visibility over all production stages at all times
- Track the job path in real time, monitoring its production costs
- Detect processing times for more accurate and realistic estimates
- Improve the scheduling of delivery times
- Facilitate communication between the office and production
- Move from the use of paper with traditional work bills to the use of smartphones and tablets, achieving automatic data capture and consequently eliminating time-consuming manual recording and reporting processes with a consequent decrease in the risk of errors.
The software has met FEDERICI’s expectations to the extent that it has prompted the company to interconnect multiple machines and led the owner, Federici Luca, to state“The software is simple, intuitive and solves several problems: it is a great help for scheduling and managing the work order in the processing stage and is also a great tool for tracking processing times for more precise management than traditional tools.”
